Seed hoarders, UNITE
There are two types of people in this world.
People who buy the exact 3 seed packets they planned on for their garden.
People who walk buy the seeds just to look… and leave with 27 packets and a new watering wand.
We are the second type of people. Even though we have a pile of last years seeds waiting to be finished.
Here’s what happens…
You are driving to the garden center saying, I just need one pack of tomatoes, cucumbers and some lettuce.
But then you walk in to Laurel Gardens and see a fresh spinner of Botanical Interests and who can resist:
Martian Jewels Corn with glowing white kernels
Jimmy Nardello heirloom sweet peppers
Purple Beauty peppers that look like jewels
Luffa & Birdhouse gourds to cover your trellis
Apricotta Cosmos that dance in the wind
Mammoth Navy Blue Sweet Peas that transform your patio into the English courtyard
Costata Romanesco Squash a nutty Italian heirloom
Hot Biscuits Amaranth, what a name!
And us seed people we have the vision, those seed packets contain the tastiest BLT of your life, a bouquet on your kitchen table, a child discovering carrots magically pull out from under the dirt, a quiet morning spent with the butterflies and the birds and hot cup of coffee. So to us, it’s worth getting carried away.
So here’s some advice from a fellow seed lover
Buy the purple carrots.
Try the weird squash.
Plant the flowers too close.
Start the herbs early.
Freeze all the tomatoes.
Give away the GIANT zucchini.
Enjoy the season of growing because it leaves all to quickly.
And if you do end up with an overwhelming pile of seeds, head to a seed swap trade with some new friends or tuck them away in a cool dry place for the next season. Come chat with us at Laurel Gardens about one of our favorite things, SEEDS!
